Snowflakes and Hugs

Hello all!
How are you doing? I am very well! Things are great. Great!! The Creative Craft Fair show went fantastic by the way. It was an amazing learning experience, and we made so many connections, and new friends. Our table was super lovely, and the positive feedback was overwhelming. I’ve posted some pics of it on the Events Page over @ Twin Love. 1 Thanks to everyone who came to show support! <3
What is your favorite gallery plugin? Anyone? I’m open to suggestions!!!
Now that December is so close in proximity, I’ve been getting my Christmas hat on! I feel very alive with the Christmas Spirit this year, and I’m all about the non-commercial celebration. I’m going to bake tons, and craft tons and be merry for the rest of the year! I plan to make all my gifts this year, 2 and give baskets of homey goodness instead of looking for the best sales and forging into the horrifying mall scene.
For various reasons last year at this time, I was in a much darker place, and I didn’t get into the holiday spirit at all! I don’t think I even crafted a single Christmas thingie! Can you believe it?! Well, not this year. My first little experiment this season are crocheted snowflakes!! Here’s my first attempt.

I didn’t realize how big it would turn out
I was using a thicker yarn than the pattern called for i think, 3 so while this one might be good for decorating, maybe not so much for a tree. *insert Charlie Brown moment where I place this snowflake on my tree and the whole thing tilts over!* It was super fun to make though! I’ve never made anything like this before. ./cheer
Then i looked for something a bit smaller, and I came across this pattern.

This one is a much better size!! And soooo super cute!! I love how it turned out. And this one was really easy to make too! So I’m definitely going to make more of these!! The next step with these, is to try and make them a bit stiffer. There are crochet stiffeners that you can buy, but from what I’ve read they’re more for crochet thread items. Because I made this out of acrylic, I’m not sure if it would ruin it or not? With a little bits of Internet research, I found a really informative page on the different types of stiffener, and I think I might crochet a mini sample and try the sugar method. And add sparklessssss!!!!!!!!! I love sparkles! They’re going to look so pretty! And if that doesn’t work out, I might stitch some silver sequence on instead. We’ll see!
I’m also working on my very first pair of mittens. I looked at several patterns, and while the concept of mittens seems within my grasp, the patterns just left me baffled. So i looked at a lot of pictures instead, and then just made it up from my head as I went along. I have one mitten done, and the other I’ve just started. So pics to come of that soon! I’m excited for them to be done. The weather here has taken a turn for the worse and my fingers get so cold! Brrrr!
Any who, I’m off to work, Happy Friday everyone! *hugs*
- On a side note, I just upgrade the version of Next Gen I was using for the gallery, and now it’s all buggered up. When you hit Next, it just says loading forever. *sigh* Another thing to find time to fix. [↩]
- With the exception of my boyfriend who’s already alphabetized the list of items he’d like and emailed to his family and myself! [↩]
- since it’s the only white yarn I have!! [↩]

Those snowflakes are so very charming! I imagine you could starch them like crazy… but I have no experience doing so or idea if it’d work with yarn. It’s an idea, anyway. =) Your christmas tree is going to look so snazzy this year!

You know what would be really cute for your first snowflake? Using it to set a jar candle on, as a center piece on an end table. That way, even if the candle isn’t holiday scented, it’s still holiday themed.

I use plain CSS coding for my galleries. It may seem like more work, but I keep a empty template of the basic design so all I have to enter is the url of the image. If you want look at my source code at the galleries at Amarantine. The tutorial that I use & follow is located here:

I just change the colors & graphics as I need to. I never found a plugin that worked the way I wanted it to or produced the images the way I wanted them to show up. This one does it the best.
I love your snowflakes. They are so cute.

The snowflakes are adorable! I was going to recommend starch but I see it’s been mentioned. Can’t wait to see the finished mittens!
